Launched in 2018 as a result of the 2016 Health and Nature Symposium, the Center for Health & Nature is a partnership between Texan by Nature, Houston Methodist Hospital, and Texas A&M University. The Center vision is to drive research to study the impact of nature on health with evidence-based programs that complement the full continuum of health care: prevention, treatment, and recovery.
The Health & Nature Symposium 2019 convened national experts exploring the beneficial link between health and nature. The day began with presentation and discussion of current research and culminated with four interactive research proposals intent on advancing knowledge of the intersection between health and nature. Topics of focus included:
- Nature as Preventative & Restorative Medicine
- The Health Role of Nature in Cities
- Nature as Chronic Disease Management
One hundred fifty medical, academic, conservation, civic and business leaders attended the symposium which increased awareness of the current state of field research, identified research gaps, and explored funding mechanisms available to health and nature research.
