Texan by Nature and H-E-B Partner to Plant Trees for Texans
Applications for tree planting community grant program kicks off this Earth Month

[Austin, Texas]: Texan by Nature (TxN), a Texas-led conservation non-profit that advances conservation by bringing industry and conservation together, today announced their Earth Month partnership with retailer H-E-B to support the TxN-led H-E-B Trees for Texans program. This program aims to enrich Texas communities by planting native trees that create healthier environments for our schools, communities, and future.

During Earth Month, H-E-B will give its customers an opportunity to engage in conservation action by accepting donations at the registers of store locations across Texas to support the Trees for Texans program. From April 10th to May 7th, customers can choose to make as many $1, $3, $5, and round-up donations at checkout as they please with all proceeds directly supporting the statewide tree-planting initiative. This collaboration underscores both organizations’ commitment to connecting Texans with conservation efforts, reducing urban heat islands, and supporting local nonprofits that protect our natural resources.

Through its For Communities branch, Trees for Texans awards $5000 grants to support hands-on conservation projects that enhance tree canopy, reduce the heat island effect, expand greenspace, and beautify public areas in Texas communities. Applications for 2024 grants are open from April 10th, 2024, to June 7th, 2024, targeting fall tree-planting initiatives.

“Trees for Texans is another successful example of what is possible when business and conservation collaborate to build brighter futures for all Texans,” says Joni Carswell, CEO and President of Texan by Nature. “We look forward to supporting even more good work from local non-profits, municipalities, and civic organizations in 2024.”

“Partnering with Texan by Nature for the H-E-B Trees for Texans program aligns with our commitment to sustainability and making a positive impact in Texas. Together, we’re not just planting trees; we’re planting the seeds for a greener, healthier future for generations to come.” says Leslie Sweet, Managing Director of Sustainability & Environmental Affairs at H-E-B.

To date, H-E-B Trees for Texans has:

  • 162,989 native trees planted,
  • 260 acres of Texas land reforested, and
  • shade for 1724 students in urban areas across the Lone Star State.
