Scenic Texas

Location: STATEWIDE, Texas

Scenic Texas was founded by Carroll Shaddock and inspired by Texas’ own Lady Bird Johnson who began the scenic movement during her husband’s presidency. The former First Lady’s vision was to make America the Beautiful a reality. Scenic Texas’ mission is to preserve and enhance the state’s visual environment, particularly as seen by the traveling public. As the state’s only nonprofit dedicated towards the scenic qualities of Texas roadways, countrysides, and communities, Scenic Texas feels great responsibility for upholding their mission to provide a better quality of life for Texan citizens and visitors.

The nonprofit carries out programs and initiatives including Scenic City, Scenic County, Scenic Schools, and 1M Trees Across Texas, all working to implement high-quality scenic standards for public roadways and scenic spaces. Additionally, Scenic Texas has seven chapters and affiliates across the state promoting the beautification, preservation, and enhancement of Texas’ visual environment. Through their initiatives and chapters and affiliates across Texas, Scenic Texas preserves and enhances the visual character of Texas.
