Pease Park Conservancy

Location: Austin, Texas

As one of Texas’ first public parks, Pease Park has a rich and storied history. From native civilizations evidenced as early as 11,400 years ago, to Edwin Waller’s city map in 1839, to Governor Pease’s donation of land in 1875, to Janet Fish constructing the nation’s first hike-and-bike trail – Pease Park is an integral civic landmark in modern Austin. Pease Park Conservancy’s (PPC’s) mission is to celebrate the diverse ecology and history that make Austin’s first public park valuable and unique.

The Conservancy works in partnership with the City of Austin to restore, enhance and maintain this 84-acre public green space for the sustainable use and enjoyment of all. So far, accomplishments of the Conservancy include planting more than 4000 trees, investing $14M in the public green space, overseeing volunteers in more than 19,800+ hours of work to restore the park’s ecological well-being, and completing the award-winning Pease Park Master Plan in 2014. PPC’s vision is to be known as an accessible urban green space for play, adventure and connectivity, where land stewardship, environmental innovation and inclusive programming embrace the community’s history and inspire its future.
