Bayou Land Conservancy

Location: Houston, Texas

Bayou Land Conservancy (BLC) is a nationally accredited land trust founded in 1996. Bayou Land Conservancy’s mission is to preserve land along streams for flood control, clean water, and wildlife in the Houston area. BLC’s commitment to preserving Houston’s floodplains benefits the community by increasing access to nature trails, providing environmental education programs for children and adults, and reducing flood risk to people, homes, schools, and businesses. Since inception, BLC’s work has protected more than 14,000 acres of green space at 63 preserves in the Houston region. In 2019, the conservancy proposed a Strategic Conservation Plan that highlighted areas with the greatest positive impact on flood control, water quality, and wildlife habitat. The plan outlines the next twenty years with hopes of preserving 15,000 more acres.

Bayou Land Conservancy received a TxN Certification in 2021. View the certification page here.
