Tips and Strategies for ADA Audits of Outdoor Recreation Assets

July 10 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies to facilities and parks, as well as programs and services. It applies to the State of Texas, to every one of the 254 counties, and all the 1,221 cities and towns. School districts too are subject to the ADA. How can you determine if an outdoor recreation site is accessible to people with disabilities? What is the best way to make outdoor recreation sites accessible? Are there standards for what makes an outdoor recreation site accessible?

Join us for this interactive discussion about outdoor recreation accessibility. As more and more Texans acquire disabilities and health conditions, all of us share the social responsibility of making the out-of-doors accessible to all. Attendees will understand how to locate and apply federal and state requirements for outdoor recreation sites, review and discuss the access audit and transition plan requirements for states and local governments and discover how businesses and nonprofits have less of an obligation to make sites accessible.

John McGovern leads the Accessibility Practice at The W-T Group, LLC. His team led the access audits of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department state parks. His extensive experience in recreation, accessibility, and status as a person with a disability make this a can’t-miss webinar!
