Laura Bush to Keynote 2013 Lone Star Land Steward Awards

AUSTIN, TX – On May 21st, Former First Lady Laura Bush will keynote the 2013 Lone Star Land Steward Awards ceremony in Austin, Texas. The annual event honors landowners, businesses, and alliances that conduct practical collaborative conservation on private working lands.

Mrs. Bush will highlight efforts by the private sector and landowners to address Texas’ challenges regarding water, wildlife, and other natural resources. The event is hosted by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Sand County Foundation, and Taking Care of Texas, the nonprofit she helped found. Taking Care of Texas is grateful for the support of event sponsors, Toyota, Chevron, Sand County Foundation, Colorado River Land Trust, Plains Capital Bank, Karen and Tim Hixon, and Superior Energy Services.

Taking Care of Texas, founded in 2011 by Mrs. Bush and a team of engaged landowners, businesspeople, and scientists, aims to promote the mutual benefits of economics and conservation, raise awareness of collaborative conservation projects, and provide Texans with ways to join in. Its vision is for Texas to be the state best known for its practical, scientific, and citizen led innovations in conservation. Taking Care of Texas (a 501c3) accomplishes its mission through media outreach, result demonstrations, and conservation conferences.
